SUKKUR, Dec 11: Unidentified attackers shot dead the business manager of Sindh Excise Minister Mukesh Chawla, in Kandhra on Friday.
The victim was going to Sukkur from Kandhra on a motorcycle when the armed men opened fire on him at the main chowk of Kandhra, killing him on the spot and injuring a passer-by Malook Junejo.
Kandhra police took the body to a local hospital for an autopsy and the injured to the Civil Hospital of Sukkur.
Devi Das’s body was handed over to relatives on Thursday evening and arrangements were made for his last rituals.
Bazaars of the town were closed after murder in protest.
People belonging to the Hindu community, led by president of the local Hindu Panchayat Seetal Das held a protest demonstration.
They shouted slogans against police.
Protesters said the police had failed to protect the lives and properties of the people. They were demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
Talking to journalists, Devi Das’s brothers Gurmukh Das and Parkash accused the Jagirani community men of the murder. They used to demand extortion money from Devi Lal and on his refusal they killed him.
Later, area police arrested an accused Shahid Jagirani and raids were under way for the arrest of other culprits, but no case was registered till filing of this report
